The Cleveland Cavaliers are ramping up their hunt for a new head coach following the departure of J.B. Bickerstaff. This came after they were eliminated from the 2024 NBA playoffs in the second round by the Boston Celtics.
The team has broadened its pool of potential candidates to fill the role.
Cleveland has included two additional names, New York Knicks associate head coach Johnnie Bryant and Miami Heat's top assistant coach Chris Quinn, among those they plan to interview.
The Cavs have received permission to interview both candidates, according to league insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Bryant was an assistant coach for the Utah Jazz from 2014 to 2020 before moving to New York.
Meanwhile, Quinn has been part of the Heat coaching staff since 2014, joining after concluding his playing career. He spent the majority of his time in Miami from 2006 to 2010 and had a brief stint with the Cavaliers in 2013.
Cavaliers' other head coaching candidates
The Cavaliers have previously received clearance to interview Golden State Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson and New Orleans Pelicans assistant coach James Borrego, as reported by ESPN.
Atkinson is the only candidate with head coaching experience, having led the Brooklyn Nets from 2016 to 2020.
Meanwhile, Borrego has served as an assistant under Gregg Popovich with the San Antonio Spurs, subsequently spending time on the staff of the New Orleans Hornets and Orlando Magic, a second stint with the Spurs and Charlotte Hornets, and his current role with the Pelicans. He was briefly the interim head coach of the Magic in 2015.
