The Los Angeles Lakers seek to bring a notable figure to their sidelines next season.
As the team continues its search for Darvin Ham's successor as head coach, they are also exploring options to complete the coaching staff.
One name being considered for an assistant coaching role next season is Rajon Rondo, who previously played for the team from 2018 to 2020, per Dan Woike of the LA Times.
Widely regarded as one of the smartest players to ever play the game, Rondo brings invaluable experience playing alongside Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and he was a crucial part of the team's 2020 NBA championship roster.
Woike added that New Orleans Pelicans assistant coach James Borrego is scheduled to be interviewed at the team's practice facility for their head coaching vacancy on Wednesday, May 29.
Rajon Rondo's long history with the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James
Rondo has a long history with the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James throughout his playing career, which lasted from 2006 to 2022.
The 38-year-old point guard spent the first eight and a half seasons of his NBA career with the Boston Celtics, the Lakers' biggest rival. They faced off twice in the NBA Finals in 2008 and 2010, with each team winning one championship.
The 6-foot-1 playmaker also engaged in several Eastern Conference playoff battles against LeBron James while with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
