The Sacramento Kings will have to evaluate many things in the offseason, and head coach Mike Brown may be involved.

The team missed the 2024 NBA Playoffs after dropping their second game to the New Orleans Pelicans in the play-in tournament, failing to improve from their breakout 2022-23 campaign.

The dismal campaign reportedly hasn't sat well with the team's ownership, according to team insider James Ham of Kings Beat.

The team finished 46-36 in the 2023-24 season, finishing as the ninth seed in the competitive Western Conference. They won their first play-in game against the Golden State Warriors before being eliminated.

However, they failed to improve upon their 48-34 record in the 2022-23 season, which earned them the third seed in the West and their first postseason appearance in 16 years.

Brown was named the first-ever unanimous NBA Coach of the Year for his efforts that campaign.

Mike Brown's contract talks gain traction

Brown took over as Kings' head coach in 2022, signing a three-year contract with a mutual option for a fourth year.

The 54-year-old is set to enter the last guaranteed year of the deal in 2024-25, earning less than $5 million. Given the increasing coaching salaries across the league, the fourth-year option was not exercised.

The former Warriors assistant coach is reportedly seeking an eight-figure annual salary for his next payday in the $10- to $12 million range.
