The Golden State Warriors secured four NBA championships in the past decade utilizing their small-ball lineup, but it appears that the league is moving away from that style of play.

The Bay Area squad has encountered difficulties over the past two seasons against larger teams, exacerbated by their lack of a true big man.

To address this issue, the Warriors are reportedly showing interest in Brooklyn Nets center Nic Claxton, who is set to enter free agency in the summer.

The 6-foot-11 big man averaged a career-high 9.9 rebounds per game in 29.8 minutes, along with 11.8 points and 2.1 blocks.

The Warriors would need to maneuver their payroll creatively to create salary flexibility for the 25-year-old, as they are already over the cap limit.

Claxton previously signed a two-year, $20 million deal with the Nets, earning $9.6 million in 2023-24.

Golden State Warriors' size problem

The Warriors have struggled against much larger opponents due to their lack of a true center in their roster.

During the 2023-24 season, power forward Dario Saric was the tallest player on the team at 6-foot-10, but he doesn't typically play the traditional role of a big man, often spending considerable time on the perimeter.

Kevon Looney and rookie Trayce Jackson-Davis, both 6-foot-9, have served as their primary big men, but they consistently find themselves outrebounded and outmuscled in the paint.
