Former Miami Heat power forward Udonis Haslem, who was LeBron James' teammate in South Beach from 2010 to 2014, recently weighed in on the Los Angeles Lakers' potential hiring of JJ Redick as their next head coach.

During a guest appearance on ESPN's "NBA Today" alongside co-hosts Malika Andrews, Austin Rivers, and Brian Windhorst, Haslem expressed how Redick's appointment might not bode well for the purple-and-gold franchise.

"I'm gonna go ahead and say it. If it's JJ, it's gonna be a cynical locker room. You're going to see guys that are gonna say, 'Is coach going to do a podcast after the game with LeBron?' You're gonna have a cynical locker room of guys that are gonna side-eye everything JJ says. Cause they're gonna wonder, 'Is it JJ's message? Or is it LeBron's message?'," the 39-year-old told the show

Haslem refers to the podcast "Mind the Game" by James and Redick, launched in March 2024. The podcast features an in-depth analysis of plays and occasional stories from their time in the league.

The Heat legend later endorsed Chris Quinn for the Lakers' head coaching job. The 40-year-old, currently a top assistant coach under Erik Spoelstra, has experience working with James.

JJ Redick among top candidates for Lakers job

Redick, who now works as a sports analyst on ESPN and hosts two podcasts, has been named one of the top candidates for the Lakers' head coaching position.

The 39-year-old previously interviewed for the Charlotte Hornets' head coaching job, which ultimately went to Charles Lee.

Other top candidates for the Lakers include New Orleans Pelicans assistant James Borrego and Boston Celtics assistant Sam Cassell.
