Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has addressed the impending departure of star Kylian Mbappe, who is widely expected to move to Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid this summer.
Enrique and Mbappe were subject to apparent friction after the manager substituted the forward numerous times during the season as rumors of his departure intensified. Enrique alluded to the need to prepare for life without the World Cup winner.
Despite those moments, the 54-year-old has nothing but good things to say about Mbappe.
"It's been a pleasure to train Kylian Mbappé. He has always been perfect, he's a role model," Enrique told French television channel Canal Plus.
Enrique has managed the 2022 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winner for one season in 2023-24 after taking the PSG managerial job in July 2023.
"I have zero negative things to say about Kylian. I've nothing against him. He's been really perfect, his behaviour has been excellent", he added.
Mbappe has officially announced his departure from the French capital after seven seasons in a video posted on his social media platforms, leaving only an official announcement by Real Madrid pending to conclude the transfer saga years in the making.
Kylian Mbappe loses final home game with PSG
Mbappe saw action at PSG's home turf, Parc des Princes, one last time on Sunday, May 12, against Toulouse in Ligue 1 action.
The Frenchman scored PSG's lone goal in the 8th minute as they lost 3-1, but it had no bearing as they had mathematically clinched the league title.
PSG has two league matches remaining away from home, and Mbappe's final game for the club will be the Coupe de France final against Lyon on May 25.
