Manchester United endured a dismal 2023-24 campaign, and they are not in the mood for celebrations.

The team has canceled the club's traditional end-of-season awards dinner set for May 20, according to a report by Adam Crafton and Daniel Taylor and The Athletic.

The English club usually hosts a formal dinner at Old Trafford during the end of the season to present in-club awards for both their men's and women's teams.

These awards include the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award and recognition for other honors, such as Goal of the Year and Breakthrough Young Talent.

Despite the event's cancellation, the players will still receive the awards voted on by their peers, coaches, and fans without a ceremony.

United is currently in eighth place in the Premier League and is on the verge of their worst league finish in over three decades since placing 13th in 1989-90.

Potential silver lining for Manchester United's awful 2023-24 season

Despite their disappointing league campaign, Manchester United still has a chance to capture silverware. They are set to face their city rivals, Manchester City, in the 2024 FA Cup final scheduled for May 25 at Wembley Stadium in London.

The cup final is also one reason manager Erik ten Hag and senior club officials canceled the annual end-of-season awards dinner, opting for the players to focus on preparing for the match.

The upcoming cup final is a rematch of the 2023 edition, in which City won 2-1.
