The second leg of the quarterfinals clash between Real Madrid and Manchester City last Wednesday, April 17, at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England, provided 120 minutes of thrill and stood out as one of the season's most exciting games.

Former Real Madrid and current Manchester United defensive midfielder Casemiro was among those who were on the edge of their seats.

"I watched Real Madrid vs City. I suffered with them. A very good game. They suffered but I knew it, we know how City are. I suffered a lot, they defended, defended and defended. I'm very happy for Real Madrid," the 32-year-old said during an appearance on El Chiringuito TV.

Real Madrid employed a conservative defensive tactic, often "parking the bus," for a significant portion of the game, while Manchester City continued to press forward with their attacks.

The Spanish giants' efforts culminated in a penalty shootout after the aggregate score ended at 4-4, with Real Madrid emerging victorious, 4-3.

Double win for Casemiro

Real Madrid's victory was a double win for the Brazilian midfielder, given the elimination of Manchester City, one of the biggest rivals of his current team, Manchester United.

"Of course I was happy! For Real Madrid, there are my friends there, and for United too," the Brazilian player said, laughing afterward.

Casemiro was an integral presence on the Real Madrid squads that won five UEFA Champions League titles in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2022.
