Hawks: Dejounte Murray Shares Hilarious NSFW Roast From Spurs HC Gregg Popovich After 44-Point Game

Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray recounted a humorous roast by his former coach, Gregg Popovich, following his career-high game against the top-seeded Boston Celtics last Thursday, March 28.

The 27-year-old scored 44 points, albeit shooting an inefficient 18-of-44 from the field.

"He just texted me the other day like, you took forty f*****g shots, pass the f*****g ball. That's our relationship, though," Murray told his teammate Trae Young on his podcast "From The Point."

Murray spent the first five seasons of his NBA career with the San Antonio Spurs under Popovich from 2016 to 2022. During his final campaign with the team in 2021-22, Murray earned an NBA All-Star selection and led the league in steals.

Murray offered more insight into his close relationship with one of the greatest coaches in NBA history.

"I love that dude to death, man. Like, he was a father for me. When I would lose people, I would go in his room, and he would give me that hug. I would cry on his shoulder, I would vent to him," the one-time NBA All-Star stated.

Murray added that Popovich was there for him beyond basketball and involving real-life matters.
