Cardinals Just Spent $68.5 Million in Free Agency for 3 Defensive Players

The Arizona Cardinals are strengthening their defensive roster by acquiring three pivotal players through free agency.

The team has agreed to terms with defensive tackle Justin Jones and Bilal Nichols, and cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting on Monday, March 11.

Justin Jones, drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2018 and has been part of the Chicago Bears since 2022, is set to sign a three-year contract valued at $30.1 million, including $19.75 million in guaranteed money.

The 27-year-old was consistent on the field last season, starting in all 17 games and logging 69 percent of the Bears' defensive snaps.

On the other hand, Bilal Nichols has secured a three-year contract worth $21 million, with $14.4 million in guaranteed money.

Formerly a member of the Chicago Bears from 2018 to 2021, Jones took over his position upon his departure from the Windy City. Nichols has been playing for the Las Vegas Raiders since 2022.

Cardinals' first acquisition of the offseason is former Super Bowl champ

The team's initial addition to the offseason was one-time Super Bowl champion cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting, who signed a three-year contract worth $17.4 million, making the Cardinals his third team in as many years.

Formerly part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2019 to 2022, where he won Super Bowl LV in the 2020 season, Murphy-Bunting spent the previous year with the Tennessee Titans.

During his tenure with the Titans, he participated in 14 games, contributing 57 tackles, two interceptions, eight passes defensed, and two forced fumbles.
