Chargers: 3 Players LA Must Target in Free Agency to Perfectly Start Jim Harbaugh Era

The Los Angeles Chargers are ushering in a new era for the 2024 season with the appointment of their new head coach, Jim Harbaugh.

Widely acclaimed, the 60-year-old has an impressive coaching pedigree, recently guiding the Michigan Wolverines to the 2024 College Football National Championship.

He previously led the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl in the 2012 season, adding a seasoned and successful perspective to the Chargers' coaching helm.

Despite having an elite quarterback in Justin Herbert, the Chargers faced challenges in the 2023 season. They concluded the campaign with a 5-12 record, securing the fourth and last place in the AFC West Division.

With the big splash they made this offseason in their head coaching position, it's time for the franchise to add players that could execute on the field.

3 Players Los Angeles Chargers Must Target in Free Agency

1.Tee Higgins

Following unsuccessful contract negotiations with the Cincinnati Bengals last year, wide receiver Tee Higgins is set to enter free agency for the upcoming 2024 NFL season.

In the 2023 season, Higgins showcased his skills with 42 catches for 656 yards and contributed five touchdowns across 12 games.

The Chargers are grappling with challenges at the wide receiver position due to injuries and are likely considering options to bolster their receiving corps.

Mike Williams was sidelined for most of the season with a torn ACL, while Joshua Palmer has faced time on the injured reserve.

2. Chidobe Awuzie

Another potential addition for the Chargers to strengthen their roster is cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, another player from the Cincinnati Bengals.

His track record reveals a remarkable consistency, with only one season where he received a PFF (Pro Football Focus) coverage grade below 60.0.

Awuzie's ability to maintain a high level of performance positions him as a valuable asset for enhancing the team's defensive capabilities.

In the 2023 season, the 28-year-old demonstrated his defensive prowess with 43 solo tackles, 14 assists, and a fumble recovery across 15 games.

3. D'Andre Swift

Philadelphia Eagles running back D'Andre Swift is regarded as one of the underrated players available in the market.

At 25 years old, he could be a cost-effective option for the Chargers, as he is currently in the final year of his rookie deal signed with the Detroit Lions in 2020.

The 2023 Pro Bowl selection recorded 229 carries for 1,049 yards and scored 6 touchdowns in 16 games during the 2023 season.

Considering that Austin Ekeler's tenure as a running back for the Chargers may be concluding, especially after the failed attempt to restructure his deal before this season, acquiring a running back becomes a crucial priority for the team.

Given the wealth of talent in the free agency class for running backs, the Chargers should be able to get their hands on one of them.
