The New York Jets entered the 2023 season with high expectations and aspirations for a Super Bowl run due to the acquisition of four-time NFL MVP and legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers, as well as key signings like running back Dalvin Cook.
However, their aspirations crumbled abruptly as early as the the fourth snap of the season, during their Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills on September 11 at MetLife Stadium, the Jets' home venue, after Rodgers tore his left Achilles, rendering him out of the season.
Subpar performances from quarterbacks Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle contributed to a disappointing year. Despite an initial 4-3 start, the team endured a five-game losing streak before concluding the season with a 3-2 record in the last five games.
Ultimately, the Jets finished the season at 7-10, mirroring their performance from the previous year, landing in the third spot in the AFC East Division and ranking 13th in the entire conference. Unfortunately, this marked the fourth consecutive season with at least ten losses for the Jets.
The team's postseason drought extended to thirteen years, maintaining the longest active streak in the NFL. Additionally, they concluded the season with a sub-.500 record for the eighth consecutive year.

3 players New York Jets must target in free agency
1. Calvin Ridley
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Calvin Ridley is poised to enter the free-agent market, presenting an opportunity to seamlessly assume the role of New York's No. 2 wideout. Garrett Wilson is currently the sole receiver on the Jets' roster who could do damage.
In the 2023 season, the 29-year-old Ridley showcased his skills with an impressive stat line, amassing 76 receptions for 1,016 yards and notching 8 touchdowns in 17 games. This stellar performance marked his return after missing the 2022 season due to a suspension related to gambling.
Ridley's prowess as a top-notch route runner is evident, consistently creating separation on the field. His exceptional body control further adds to his arsenal, allowing him to make challenging catches easily.
2. Michael Onwenu
New England Patriots guard Michael Onwenu presents another viable option for the Jets, especially considering that addressing the offensive line is deemed the most crucial aspect of the upcoming offseason.
With the flexibility to play both guard and tackle positions, Onwenu brings versatility that could significantly enhance the overall quality of the offensive line. Notably, he has surrendered only two sacks in 2023.
3. Mike Evans
Another compelling option to boost the team's wide receiver corps is veteran Mike Evans from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who is poised to enter free agency after not receiving a contract extension from Tampa Bay last season.
At 30 years old, Evans had an impressive 2023 season, tallying 79 receptions for 1,255 yards and scoring 13 touchdowns in 17 games.
Despite reaching 30, Evans continues to showcase a significant upside, attributed to the consistency he has demonstrated throughout his career.
