Iowa Hawkeyes standout Caitlin Clark has etched her name in history, emerging as the all-time leading scorer in NCAA women's basketball. 

The 22-year-old basketball sensation reached this milestone by scoring a career-high 49 points during a game against the Michigan Wolverines on Thursday, February 15, where the Hawkeyes took a 106-89 victory.

This achievement surpasses the previous record-holder, Kelsey Plum, who accumulated 3,527 career points over 139 games at Washington from 2013 to 2017.

1. Iowa born-and-bred

A true Iowa product, Clark was born on January 22, 2002, in Des Moines, Iowa, and was raised in West Des Moines, where she attended Dowling Catholic High School.

2. Caitlin Clark's favorite WNBA player

Clark found inspiration in Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx, the nearest WNBA team to her hometown. She even went the extra mile, traveling with her father for three and a half hours to attend their games and witness Moore's remarkable performances firsthand.

3. Caitlin Clark's reason for playing with the Iowa Hawkeyes

Raised in West Des Moines, Clark's decision to attend Iowa for her education was a purposeful choice.

She intended to stay close to home, ensuring her family could actively support and watch her play throughout her collegiate basketball journey.

In addition, Clark was attracted to the team's up-tempo style of offense and the expertise of head coach Lisa Bluder, particularly in the development of point guards.

4. Caitlin Clark comes from a family of athletes

A strong sports lineage marks Clark's family background. Her father, Brent Clark, a sales executive at Concentric International, used to play basketball and baseball at Simpson College.

Caitlin's mother, Anne Nizzi-Clark, is of Italian descent and the daughter of former Dowling Catholic High School football coach, Bob Nizzi.

Within the family, Caitlin has an older brother named Blake, who pursued college football at Iowa State. Her cousin, Audrey Faber, made her mark in college basketball by playing for Creighton.

The athletic legacy doesn't end there. Caitlin's uncles, Tom Faber and Mike Nizzi, had college sports careers. Faber was involved in basketball, representing Drake and Utica, while Nizzi excelled in football, playing for Nebraska-Omaha.

5. Caitlin Clark's boyfriend also played basketball

Clark is currently in a relationship with former Iowa men's basketball player Connor McCaffery, who spent six seasons with the Hawkeyes under the guidance of his father, the long-time Iowa coach Fran McCaffery.

The 6-foot-6 guard holds NCAA history's second-best career assist-to-turnover ratio, boasting 527 assists and 147 turnovers. 

In May 2023, McCaffery transitioned into a coaching role by joining the staff of the Indiana Pacers. In his new role, the 25-year-old assistant coach is involved in various tasks, including overseeing the scout team, contributing to film study, and fulfilling any other responsibilities required by the Pacers coaching staff.
