One of the biggest stories in the NFL this season does not revolve around the game itself.
Instead, it centers around the romantic involvement between world-famous pop star Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
The duo has garnered considerable media attention since rumors initially surfaced about their relationship.
Although neither has officially acknowledged their dating status, speculations were confirmed when the 12-time Grammy Award winner was seen sharing a kiss with the two-time Super Bowl champion during the Argentina leg of her widely acclaimed Eras Tour concert on Saturday, November 11.
How did the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce romance start?
In late July, Kelce shared that he attended Swift's Eras Tour concert in Kansas City on July 8.
The eight-time Pro Bowl selection revealed that he tried to present the pop icon with a "friendship bracelet," a customary practice among Swift's concert attendees, but with a unique twist this time, including his phone number.
Nevertheless, Kelce mentioned that his attempt to meet Swift during the concert was unsuccessful, as she refrained from talking to anyone before her performances to preserve her voice for the extensive setlist of 44 songs.
Quietly hanging out
By September, several sources reported that the two were "quietly hanging out," while Kelce's brother Jason playfully avoided answering questions about the rumors when asked on the spot several times.
A few days after the rumors emerged, Kelce publicly made his move on the musician during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.
"I've seen you rock the stage in Arrowhead [Stadium], you might have to come see me rock the stage in Arrowhead and see which one's a little more lit," the tight end said.
Taylor Swift attends the Chiefs game
Swift made headlines on September 24 when she made a surprise appearance at the Chiefs game against the Chicago Bears, enthusiastically cheering alongside Kelce's mother, Donna.
They were also seen departing Arrowhead Stadium together after the game, cruising around Kansas City in the Chiefs player's convertible and having dinner together.
The "You Belong With Me" hitmaker attended three of the next four Chiefs games alongside Kelce's family, even forming a friendship with quarterback Patrick Mahomes' wife Brittany.
The Taylor Swift effect
Swift's attendance had a massive effect on the league, causing huge viewership numbers and an increase in female viewers.
The NFL provided extensive coverage of Swift's attendance during games, showcasing camera angles highlighting the pop icon and sharing updates on social media about her presence.
Kelce's number 87 Chiefs jersey also experienced a 400 percent spike in sales, making it one of the top five best-selling jerseys in the league.
Taylor Swift changes song lyric
During the Chiefs' bye week, Kelce traveled to Argentina to catch his beau's concert on November 11.
The 33-year-old singer slightly tweaked her 2022 song "Karma," referring to Kelce.
Swift sang, "Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me," eliciting cheers from the Argentinian crowd, with a seeming chuckle in the midst of the lyric.
After the show, Swift rushed toward Kelce and kissed him before their fans.
