Atletico Madrid has been dealt a blow in La Liga after suffering a 2-1 defeat against ninth-place UD Las Palmas on Friday, November 3, at the Estadio Gran Canaria in Las Palmas, Canary Islands.

Las Palmas built a 2-0 cushion in the second half courtesy of midfielder Kirian Rodriguez's low strike from outside the box in the 51st minute, as well as forward Benito Ramírez del Toro's powerful low shot at the near post in the 75th minute.

Striker Álvaro Morata managed to get a goal back for Atletico in the 83rd minute, but it simply wasn't enough for the capital side to come away with a win on the road.

"Las Palmas had a great game and it was hard for us. They did not let us play, they made it hard for us to bring the ball out, they were very good," Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak told Movistar.

The win marked Las Palmas' first against Atlético in the 21st century, having previously faced defeat in all eight of their recent encounters.

Atletico denied of top spot in La Liga

With the loss, Atletico Madrid missed a chance to be joint-leaders of the La Liga table via points with Real Madrid.

They remain in third place behind Los Blancos and Girona, and the loss is just the second all season for manager Diego Simeone's side.
