Carl Froch Vs. Andre Ward: 'Cobra' Denies Rematch With George Groves Despite Mocking Twitter Post, Calls Out 'S.O.G.; Gennady Golovkin Looming? [VIDEO]

Carl Froch, the WBA and IBF super middleweight titleholder, won a controversial bout with No. 1 contender George Groves recently that included a questionable stoppage. Froch had been downed earlier in the fight, which was exciting to the British fans that attended and tuned in.

Froch is denying Groves a rematch though, instead focusing on avenging his loss to Andre Ward in 2011. "I defended my title against a mandatory. I beat an unbeaten fighter, a hungry, ambitious fighter who came to try and win the fight - and winning with a technical knockout in the ninth round is a great result," Froch said. "Do I want to go over old ground? Not at the minute, no. I like to move forward in my career and the only old ground I like to go over again is for a defeat."

That means Ward, the consensus No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world. He doesn't seem able to be shaken from that mindset, despite Groves' best efforts on Twitter to rankle him into accepting a second challenge. Groves posted a photo that played toward local fans' desire to see the two scrap again.

If a Ward fight can't be made, some have speculated that knockout artist Gennady Golovkin, currently fighting at middleweight, would be a good pairing for Froch as well. Golovkin will be defending his middleweight belt in Monte Carlo on February 1st against Osumanu Adama. The timing shouldn't matter much, as Golovkin is one of boxing's most frequent defenders of his strap.

"Gennady is committed to staying active and fighting the toughest opponents willing to get in the ring with him," K2 Promotions managing director Tom Loeffler said. "He's anxious to make a quick return to the ring and looking forward to the challenge of defending his [title]."

If he's able to top Adama, K2 is scheduled to have Golovkin fight again on April 26th. "GGG" isn't looking ahead, however. "We'd try to secure the biggest name possible for that one," Loeffler said, "but first Gennady has to get by Adama, who is a very tough opponent."
