McLaren driver Lando Norris is open to teaming up with his close friend and two-time world champion Max Verstappen somewhere down the road.

"It's definitely something I would be open to in the future," Norris said about racing alongside the F1 record holder for most consecutive victories.

The 23-year-old said in an interview that he already knew the Dutchman reasonably well from their karting days, meeting him for the first time around 2012-2013 and already seeing his talent behind the wheel.

Norris also joked that he invited Verstappen to come to McLaren during the past few days.

"So, if he wants to come any time, he's very welcome," the British driver said.

Meanwhile, Verstappen said that Norris's decision to sign a long-term contract with McLaren "was not smart," owing to the car's inconsistent performances in the last few years.

However, he reiterated that he has a good relationship with Norris, and he called him one of the best drivers in the grid and a potential team-up could be very interesting but not possible at the moment.

Norris and Verstappen are close

The two Formula One drivers are known to be close to each other, with the reigning champion calling Norris his "best friend on the grid."

Norris famously broke Max Verstppen's Hungarian Grand Prix winner's trophy by accident during the race's podium celebrations last July, and the two picked up the replacement trophy together a month later.
