Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka is set to become the No. 1-ranked female tennis player in the world for the first time in her career when the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) updates its rankings next Monday, September 11.

The 2023 Australian Open winner shared that her year-long goal has been to reach the top of the mountain of women's tennis.

"All this year I've been pushing myself so hard to reach this goal, to become World No. 1. It really means a lot for me, a lot for my family and... It's just, it's just unbelievable. It's something crazy. I still can't believe it," the 25-year-old said.

After current world No. 1 Iga Swiatek crashed out of the ongoing US Open tournament in the round of 16 last Sunday, Sabalenka will finally overtake the Polish player in the rankings after months of chasing her.

Swiatek suffered a shocking loss to Jelena Ostapenko, 3-6 6-3 6-1, failing to defend the US Open title she won in 2022.
