Kobe Bryant Day will have a glittering spectacle at the Santa Monica Pier on Thursday, August 24, in honor of the late Los Angeles Lakers legend.

The 90-foot-tall Ferris wheel at the Pacific Park will be the focus of attention on Thursday night. It will light up with "LA+heart+24" and "LA+heart+8" together with the color displays of gold and purple that will be presented in various patterns and transitions, Fox 11 reported.

Also known as Black Mamba Day or Mamba Day, August 24 is a day set to honor the two jersey numbers worn by the late five-time NBA champion. It is also the day after Kobe Bryant's birthday, August 23.

Bryant is also the first player in NBA history to have both his jerseys retired by the same team.

The Pacific Wheel is composed of 174,000 LED lights that are mounted on the Ferris wheel's structure. These are solar-powered, featuring 16.7 million color value combinations.

Remembering Kobe and Gianna Bryant

It was on Jan. 26, 2020, when Bryant died along with his daughter Gianna Bryant in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, the Los Angeles Times reported. They were among nine people who died from the tragedy.

Kobe Bryant is expected to be a trending topic on social media starting Wednesday, with people expected to post tribute to the late NBA star. The 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player would have turned 45 years old this year if he were still alive.
