Kentucky head coach John Calipari has said recently that his young Wildcats need to up their level of play when they take on top opposition. Tonight's game at AT&T Stadium, the first time Kentucky will step on the floor in this arena, will provide a good test of their mettle.
"We aren't going to have 80,000 (fans) there but my hope is that because of the games that are being played there, everybody is ranked, it's going to be a terrific environment," Calipari said. "I haven't been in the building but everybody tells me it's just ridiculous. They are moving the court to one side, but the court will be raised, so it will be like that kind of environment. I am excited."
The Bears may provide a stiffer challenge in terms of athleticism than most would expect to the Kentucky super-freshmen, but big man Julius Randle won't be taken by surprise.
"I'm very familiar with their guys," Randle said. He has played with several Bears during AAU ball. "They're a really good team. They can shoot the ball and have some long, athletic bigs. It should be a good challenge for us."
Randle leads the Wildcats with 18.1 points per game and 12.6 rebounds, but had a streak of seven straight double-doubles snapped against Providence. Baylor is paced by senior forward Cory Jefferson, checking in with team highs in scoring (13.5 PPG) and rebounding (8.8 RPG).
