Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe dropped a bombshell to the French club today, as he informed them that he will not activate the 2024-25 season option in his contract.

With this, the French star will be a free agent in June 2024.

PSG was shocked by Mbappe's decision, and they are clear on the position to sell the forward this summer right away than lose him for free next year.

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano described the situation as "very tense," and the club is furious. PSG has a contingency plan in case the 24-year-old leaves, but there is no chance he will depart via a free transfer.

Annual Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid Saga is on Again

Spanish giants Real Madrid are the frontrunners to acquire the star forward, as they have been for the previous years.

Real Madrid are looking for a replacement for striker Karim Benzema, who left for Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad.

The club recently completed the deal to acquire English midfielder Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund and is also linked to a move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

Real Madrid's Mbappe acquisition nearly came to fruition during the summer of 2022, as the forward had already held talks with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

After a lengthy back-and-forth, Mbappe ultimately decided to stay at the French capital, which gave him a hefty signing bonus of more than $100 million and made him the highest-paid player in the world with an annual salary of about $77 million.

Mbappe was also linked to a move to the Spanish capital in 2021.
