Rap legend Fat Joe has been released from prison after serving a four month sentence for tax evasion, according to HipHopWorld.com.
The website adds the hip hop star was released from custody just in time to celebrate the Thanksgiving holidays at home with family members. HipHopWorld previously reported Joe was sentenced for federal income tax violations stemming from the years 2007, 2008 and 2010.
During trial proceedings, HipHopWorld reports government officials alleged Joe Cartagena, the rap star's born name, failed to pay taxes on some $3 million in income over those years, an estimated tax loss to the government of $718,038.
Fat Joe pleaded guilty to the charges and began serving his sentence on Aug. 26,
In an extensive interview with The Breakfast Club radio show, HipHopWorld said he attributed his troubles with the government to a less than honest accountant he now alleges was essentially running a Ponzi scheme.
According to HipHopWorld, before reporting to begin his sentence the Terror Squad leader released the third installment to his Darkside series as a mixtape called The Darkside 3.
The Bronx New York-born rapper grew up in public housing and netted his biggest hit with the release of his 2004 duet with Remy Ma entitled "Lean Back that spent the entire summer as the season's No. 1 single.
