The MVP Award has the best storyline of the season but the Sixth Man of the Year Award quite possibly is the tightest race this year. As part of our 2016-17 NBA Awards predictions, here are all the potential winners of the 2017 Sixth Man of the Year Award.
Eric Gordon
Gordon is the favorite to win the 2017 Sixth Man of the Year Award for having his best season since he was with the Los Angeles Clippers. The acquisition of Lou Williams at the trade deadline might affect his case but he finished his first year in Houston by averaging 16.2 points while shooting 37.2 percent from deep, per Basketball-Reference.
Andre Iguodala
"Iggy" might not have the stats but he certainly provides a lot for the Golden State Warriors off the bench. He did everything for the Warriors and he was even big when Kevin Durant was out with an injury, per Zach Lowe of ESPN. He was certainly robbed by Jamal Crawford last year but this year might be the year he won the 2016-17 Sixth Man of the Year Award.
Lou Williams
Williams is a former Sixth Man of the Year and he was among the favorites to win the award since he was leading the Los Angeles Lakers in scoring. He was traded to the Rockets at the deadline and his production declined due to the fact that he played with Eric Gordon off the bench.
Other Candidates
Two veteran big men can also win the 2017 Sixth Man of the Year Award. Zach Randolph accepted his role as an old guy coming off the bench but he was still able to produce. On the other hand, Greg Monroe went from castoff to being an important part of the Milwaukee Bucks' run to the playoffs. Just like Randolph, Monroe embraced his role as the primary option on offense off the bench.
Prediction
The race for the 2017 Sixth Man of the Year Award is going to be tight but Andre Iguodala will finally get the credit he deserves. His impact for the 67-win Warriors is a lot including making plays, defending the opposing team's best player and hitting timely shots when needed.
