Derrick Rose is currently recovering from his fourth knee surgery since 2012 but he is expected to be healthy in four to six weeks. However, one knee specialist believes that Rose will re-injure his knee again because of his playing style.
In an interview with the New York Post, Dr. Armin Tehrany of Manhattan Orthopedic Care explained that Derrick Rose's recent injury was the result of wear and tear. He noted that the former MVP can suffer another knee injury because of his playing style and genetics.
"If I was a betting man I'd say it happens again. When I watch him and see how he plays, I think it's because of how incredibly explosive he is. He drives to the basket so much. The speed that he's able to move, his explosive style, that puts a lot more pressure on his knees and his body," Dr. Tehrany said.
The knee specialist also pointed out that Derrick Rose can still recover his MVP form but it will only increase the chance of another knee injury. He added that Rose has the work ethic to come back even stronger because he already underwent it three times during his young NBA career.
The 28-year-old Knicks star underwent knee surgery last Wednesday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, per ESPN. It was his fourth knee surgery during his career with the first one for a torn ACL in the same knee back in 2012.
The next knee surgery he had was in 2013 to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. He suffered another torn meniscus in his right knee the next season and he underwent another surgery to repair it. Ever since he suffered the torn ACL in 2012, Derrick Rose has not gotten back to his MVP form.
Derrick Rose is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. The New York Knicks are interested in bringing him back but he will surely not get a max contract. Rose could settle for just a one-year deal to just prove to every team in the NBA that he is healthy once again.
