Tonight at 10:00 p.m. ET, the Columbus Blue Jackets (7-11-3, 17 points) and the Calgary Flames (7-11-3, 17 points) hit the ice for the second of two meetings against each other this season life from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. The game can be live streamed here. Columbus fans can hear all of the bone-crunching action by adjusting their radios to Sports Radio 97.1 The Fan while Calgary fans can do the same on Sportsnet 960 The Fan.
Both teams enter with the same exact record and Columbus is coming off of an embarrassing 7-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers while Calgary ended an 0-5-1 skid with a 5-4 road shootout win over the Winnipeg Jets on Monday. The last time these two teams met, the Flames spoiled the Blue Jackets' home opener with a 4-3 win on Oct. 4.
Columbus hopes it can bounce back after the team was utterly dominated Tuesday night, and will hope that a quick turnaround will be just what the team needs to put the loss behind it.
"I'm just really, really disappointed. We weren't ready to play the game," coach Todd Richards said, according to NHL.com after Tuesday's loss. "We weren't ready to battle or do the things necessary to win. There was no desperation and no urgency."
The Flames, meanwhile, blew a 3-2 lead with just 5.6 seconds left in regulation against the Jets, but were able to salvage the win in a shootout.
"We're not perfect, but there's not a day they're not trying," coach Bob Hartley said via NHL.com. "Some days are tougher than others. Some days are better than others, but I can count on those guys."
Columbus has been paced by James Wisniewski, who has two goals and 14 assists for 16 points while Brandon Dubinsky is the team's second highest scorer with five tallies and 10 helpers for 15 points and Ryan Johansen has 13 points while lighting the lamp six times and adding seven assists. Dubinsky (bruised foot) is currently sidelined.
Jiri Hudler paces Calgary with seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points while Sean Monahan has found the back of the net eight times and added six helpers for 14 points and Mike Cammalleri has five goals in the last five games for a season total of nine goals and four assists for 13 points.
Reigning Vezina Trophy winner Sergei Bobrovsky has started 17 of the Blue Jackets' 20 games this season en route to a 6-9-2 record with a 2.88 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage while the Flames have split their goaltending but have gone with Karri Ramo a team-leading eight times and he has put together a 2-4-1 record along with a 3.59 GAA and a .882 save percentage.
Two teams with the exact same record square off when the Blue Jackets and Flames go head-to-head in Calgary tonight.
