Tonight at 8:00 p.m. two of the NBA's most potent offenses will face off for the second time this season when the Los Angeles Clippers (7-4) head to Target Center in Minnesota to take on the Timberwolves (7-5). Neither Los Angeles nor Minnesota has played much defense this year, but the Wolves need to tighten up if they expect to avoid a second defeat at the hands of Chris Paul, who has recorded a double-double in every game this season. In the first meeting between these teams Paul dropped 21 points and 11 assists in a two-point victory.
The Clippers defense may do them in, though, as they dropped their last game against the Memphis Grizzlies. According to ESPN.com, the Clips have not won any game this season in which they scored fewer than 107 points.
"They hit first tonight," Clippers coach Doc Rivers said after the Memphis loss. "But in the games we hit first, not physically hit, but established the pace and the way you're going to play, we've won those games. In the games that they've dictated it, they've been close but they've won most of them."
Clips forward Blake Griffin said his team got caught playing Memphis' slowed-down style. "We just kind of fell into that slow grind and that's not going to work for us like we talked about," Griffin said. "We can play that way, but not as well as we can the other way."
In the midst of an active stretch, Minnesota died out against the Wizards in their most recent contest after building a 16-point lead. "If you're going to be somebody in the league, you have to be ready to win every night," point guard Ricky Rubio said. "I think we didn't do it tonight in the second half and this kind of game is one of the games that you're going to need."
