Floyd Mayweather Jr. Next Fight: Sergio Martinez, Gennady Golovkin Possible For 'Money' Or Amir Khan Still Frontrunner? [VIDEO]

It appears as if Canelo Alvarez has lineup up his next opponent, Miguel Cotto, for a big money showdown in March, while Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still searching for a compelling foe to take on in May.

Fans are clamoring to see the pound-for-pound king challenged, and the only way to do that might be another move up in weight. Names such as Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez and Gennady "GGG" Golovkin are intriguing to most boxing observers, but are not really options according to "The Money Team."

"I would advise him not to," Floyd Mayweather Sr. said. "Floyd can make 140 pounds, how the hell is Floyd going to go up there and fight somebody that big? It is stupid." For this reason, the leading candidate for a May bout with "Money" still appears to be Amir Khan, whom Mayweather Sr. believes stands no chance against Floyd Jr.

"I want my son to tear his ass out of his frame," he said. "He better take Floyd because that is the only way he can get Floyd because he might not get to Devon Alexander." That comment was made prior to Khan pulling out of a December matchup with Alexander, which was done presumably to remove the threat of an upset loss ruining his big payday.

Khan's been touted as a viable opponent for Mayweather because of his style and ability to draw big crowds of British fans. Big punchers have been unable to bully Mayweather, so Showtime's head honcho Stephen Espinoza has pined for Khan's fast hands to be the next matchup.

Despite the obvious hand speed Khan possesses, his resume will likely render him unqualified for such a high-profile fight. In his two biggest fights, he showed multiple defensive lapses that would likely spell doom vs. Floyd. Additionally, he was knocked out badly by Danny Garcia, and hit the canvas against journeyman Julio Diaz in his most recent bout.
