Today at 1:00 p.m. ET the Atlanta Falcons (2-7) will attempt to salvage some slivers of respectability in this injury-ravaged season by winning a road game against the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-8), who won their first game of the year this past Monday. The Falcons welcomed back wide receiver Roddy White into the fold last week, but the rusty White was only able to make one catch for 20 yards. This week may not be much better, as he's expected to be bottled up by Darrelle Revis.
The Bucs have shown improvements of late, following up a strong showing in a loss against Seattle with a victory against Miami. Embattled head coach Greg Schiano believes the win could be a jumping point to steering the pirate ship in the direction of respectability.
"Getting it out of the way, I don't care who you are, as the losses mount getting that (first) one win becomes harder and harder (to get)," Schiano said. "I hope now that our guys can just go out and play. Although they've said there's no additional pressure, I think human nature puts that pressure on yourself."
The Falcons are in the same boat, as running back Steven Jackson said the team must keep playing hard. "The thing about it is you have to keep chipping away. No one is going to come in the locker room and save us. We have to save ourselves. ... We can't dwell on it. One thing about being a professional, you have to acknowledge the things you made a mistake on and move on to the next one."
