WWE executives were relieved when face of the franchise and World Heavyweight Champion John Cena returned to action three months earlier than expected from an arm injury that was supposed to sideline him until January, but reports indicate that the Cenation leader is "hurting" from having to wrestle every night so soon after his recovery.
After dropping the WWE Championship at WWE's SummerSlam pay-per-view in August, Cena took time off to have surgery to repair a torn triceps and distended elbow and was supposed to be sidelined until WWE's Royal Rumble event at the end of January. Cena, as he's known to do, pushed hard through vigorous rehab and workouts to return three months sooner at October's Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, once again defying the odds of his injury.
Now, according to Wrestlingheadlines.com, Cena is having some trouble during the WWE's European tour where he is dealing with pain from having to wrestle every night. According to the site, Cena's body couldn't fully heal from the injury since he rushed himself back.
Cena returned Oct. 27 at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view and defeated Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship. The victory was done in part to gain ratings as the WWE's viewership had plummeted while Cena was injured, and to also bring some prestige to the World Heavyweight Championship, a title that Cena himself admitted people think of as "secondary."
Cena getting the title is also in conjunction with the rumors of the WWE possibly doing a title unification match with Cena's belt and the WWE belt at WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans as Cena may be gearing up to take on the WWE Champion on April 6 in a title-for-title match. With the belt on Cena, it gives the title feeling of importance. Cena spoke proudly of defending the belt at WrestleMania, if he's still champion by then.
"This is not taken as a shot of disrespect to anyone who has held the title before me, but it's now viewed as a second-tier championship, Cena told NOLA.com."[Defending it at WrestleMania 30] will truly put a stamp on making it the real deal. I want the WWE universe to realize that it's not a second-tier championship. It should be treated with as much respect as the WWE title."
With the ratings struggling, the WWE decided to bring Cena in to compete on both the Monday Night RAW and Friday Night SmackDown shows upon his return, which may be part of the reason that Cena has been experiencing a lot of pain lately.
While Cena is dealing with pain, he will definitely still take on Alberto Del Rio on Nov. 24 in his home state of Massachusetts at the TD Bank Garden during the Survivor Series pay-per-view in Boston.
Cena is ailing, but as the backbone of the WWE, he won't be taking any breaks anytime soon.
