The Pelicans rebounded from a bad loss to the Phoenix Suns by ripping the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday by 15 points, led by a defense which held the Grizzlies to a meager 84 points.

"We came out with a lot of defensive intensity, moving the ball, sharing the ball pretty well, and we got open shots," said second-year center Anthony Davis. "When we play like that, it is tough for us to get beat."

Davis is rapidly becoming a superstar for the Pelicans in his sophomore season. Through five games he's scoring 21.2 points per game, up from 13.5 last year, in addition to 11.4 rebounds, 2.2 steals, and an eye-popping four blocks a night.

So far the Lakers are exceeding expectations without the aforementioned Howard in the fold, as well as injured leader Kobe Bryant. The fact that the win came in Houston was a huge factor for the Lakers' psyche according to Blake. "This is huge mainly because we've struggled our last two away games," Blake said.

"We've gotten blown out and for us to come back and play the way we did, I think it says a lot about the character of our team."

If the Lakers want to keep up their efforts, though, they are going to need center Pau Gasol to pick up his play. He shot 1-of-10 from the field against Howard and the Rockets, and is shooting just 27 percent over the last three games.
