Fox News reports Arena Football League expansion team L.A. KISS have signed former NFL quarterback Colt Brennan, apparently ending their infatuation with fellow ex NFLer-Tim Tebow.
Brennan, 30, joins the KISS as one of the most prolific passers in NCAA history, still ranking No. 4 in Division I history in career passing touchdowns and seventh in overall yards. In three seasons as Hawaii's starting quarterback, he led the team to a 28-11 record and was a two-time WAC Offensive Player of the Year winner. He also set or tied 31 NCAA records, and was a top 10 Heisman voting finisher in back-to-back seasons.
Still, he wasn't KISS owner Gene Simmons' first choice. That would be Tebow, whom the team has openly pursued since he was waived by the New England Patriots in training camp.
Days after pronouncing their interest in him, Simmons told reporters "he's got a religious passion, as well he should, we're in America. He's proud to be a Christian, what's wrong with that? And yet, with sports media and pop culture media, they make fun of his religion. Really? In America?"
Other media outlets have speculated the deal the KISS had in mind for Tebow, the first overall player actually targeted by the tem, could have been worth "millions."
According to Fox, Tebow never responded to KISS' offer nor several other feelers that were put out for him from other non-NFL pro level teams.
