Texas Police Sergeant Charged With Stealing Pair Of Air Jordans During Drug Raid [VIDEO]

A North Texas police officer faces charges of stealing a new, popular pair of Air Jordan sneakers during a police drug raid.

Narcotics Division Sgt. Antoine Williams was booked into custody on Tuesday, Oct. 22, on a charge of theft by a public servant. Tarrant County online jail records showed that by late Wednesday he had been released from custody.

According to NewsOne.com, a man who lived at the address where police conducted the raid on Oct. 16, later told investigators the $100 pair of sneakers were missing from the residence. Later officers, who were also at the scene, told authorities they witnessed Williams carrying a pair of shoes from the home.

In a search of Williams' home, Special Investigations Section officers later recovered shoes fitting the description of those the man told officers were missing. Williams, who has been a member of the Fort Worth police force since 1999, has since been placed on restricted duty status.

Manufactured by Nike, Air Jordans remain among the most popular sneakers in all the world. According to Forbes magazine, sales of the Michael Jordan themed shoes topped more than $2 billion in 2012 and the brand still commands a whopping 56 percent of the overall market share for basketball sneakers.
