Oregon Tight End Arrested For Cocaine? Former Ducks Tight End Facing Jail Time? [VIDEO]

The Oregon Ducks are one of the best college football teams in the country these days, but one Ducks who left the flock, Colt Lyerla, lost his way.

The former tight end, who left the team earlier this year for "personal reasons," was arrested Wednesday night for possession of cocaine, according to reports.

A Lane County sheriff's report read, "detectives working an unrelated drug investigation ... observed Lyerla in a parked vehicle snorting what appeared to be a white powdery substance. Lyerla was contacted by police and admitted to using and possessing cocaine."

The report goes on to say Lyerla briefly tried to elude officers after agreeing to meet them at his apartment. "Once at the residence Lyerla ran from the vehicle into a nearby apartment," the report states. He later exited that residence and submitted to the officers.

Lyerla had left the team on October 6th, but Lyerla had been dealing with problems prior to leaving the team. Earlier in the year he had a public spat with head coach Mark Helfrich, after missing a game due to an "illness," and was suspended the week prior to leaving the team for "violating a team rule."

Before the season even started, Lyerla drew the coaching staff's ire for taking to Twitter to support conspiracy theories regarding the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Some of his theories involved the parents of children killed in the attack.

Lyerla denied leaving the team was related to his suspension. "I love everyone at Oregon; everyone's on good terms, I believe," Lyerla said. "Just for my own benefit, it was time to move on." The junior had caught 25 passes for 392 yards and six touchdowns. In his career at Oregon, he hauled in 34 passes, amassed 565 yards and scored 11 touchdowns.
