The NFL season is finally over. Now, it's time for 2016 hopefuls to look at their rosters and identify the dead weight.
Jim Harbaugh Not Denying Potential Andrew Luck Reunion
In Indianapolis, that starts with Andre Johnson.
Below are three players the Colts should sever ties with to succeed next season.
Nick Saban Would Ruin Andrew Luck's Career
Andre Johnson
Let's be honest, 2015 didn't go as planned for the entire Colts organization, but Andre Johnson finished first in the disappointment department.
The 34-year-old finished with 16-game career-lows in receptions (43), yards (503) and TDs (four) last season. One could argue it's a product of having the likes of Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst throwing you the football, but the writing's on the wall.
The Colts can save $5 million by releasing him, per Spotrac, allowing the front office to invest in better options for Andrew Luck.
Trent Cole
Trent Cole was lured from Philadelphia with a two-year, $14 million contract in 2015. He rewarded the Colts with three sacks on the year.
Much like Johnson, Cole is on the wrong side of 30 and his release would free cap significant cap space. The Colts can recoup $6.1 million against the cap by releasing him, per Spotrac.
Matt Hasselbeck
Turns out, Andrew Luck isn't unbreakable. It also turns out, Matt Hasselbeck isn't a suitable enough backup QB.
After a 4-0 start in place of Luck, the 40-year-old finished the season 1-3 under center. With his birthday coming in late September, you can't expect a 41-year-old to perform any better.
