Tonight at 7:30 p.m. on NBC, the USC Trojans (4-2) will travel to South Bend, Indiana where the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (4-2) await them in to write another chapter in one of college football's most storied rivalries. The sun set early on departed head coach Lane Kiffin in sunny SoCal, as the Trojans bumbled through an uncertain quarterback situation and an injury to stud wide receiver Marqise Lee. According to interim head coach Ed Orgeron, however, Lee is expected to be back in action for this primetime showdown.
"We'll see," Orgeron said. "I didn't know he was going to come out and do the things that he did. Obviously, he looked a little bit better."
Lee was far less cautious in discussing his injury status earlier this week. "I'm coming around pretty good," Lee said. "By Saturday, I think I'll be 100%."
That's bad news for Notre Dame; last season as a sophomore, Lee lit up college football to the tune of 118 receptions for 1,721 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Notre Dame's experienced its fair share of disappointment as well. After a marvelous 2012 campaign, n which Notre Dame was undefeated all the way to an appearance in the BCS National Championship game, things have gotten difficult. Starting quarterback Everett Golson was booted off the squad for academic reasons, and they've already suffered two defeats. A loss to USC tonight could shut the door on a big-time bowl game before the calendar shifts to November.
