Tonight at 8:00 p.m., the Boston Red Sox will play their third straight game at Comerica Park in Detroit against the Tigers in a pivotal Game 5 of the American League Championship series. Live stream the important tilt here; Red Sox fans can listen to the game on WEEI 93.7, while Tigers fans can do the same on 97.1 The Ticket.
The Tigers appeared to be losing their grip on the ALCS after two straight losses to Boston, but the offense got going with some lineup changes by manager Jim Leyland, that got Miguel Cabrera in the two-hole.
"That was pretty good. (Leyland) switched things up, kinda shake it up a little bit," Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter said. "It gave us a different mindset. Miggy hitting second, me leading off. It gave us a different mindset to make things happen." Austin Jackson found himself batting eighth in the lineup Wednesday night instead of leadoff also, and he responded with two hits, two walks, and two RBI.
"I think it just helped me relax," Jackson said. "That was the goal. To get me to relax a little, be patient get a good pitch and let the rest take care of itself."
Doug Fister was lights out on the mound as well, as Game 4 continued a trend for the Red Sox of limited offensive output.
"The one thing when we've been in stretches like this, we continually do a very good job of creating opportunities," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "We did that (Wednesday). We haven't done it so much in the first three games. But that's a tip of the hat to the pitching that we've been facing."
Tonight, the Tigers toss Anibal Sanchez at the Sox. In Game 1 Sanchez left with a no-hitter after six innings due to a high pitch count.
"He was erratic, but he was still able to make big pitches," Tigers catcher Alex Avila said of Sanchez. "That's what makes him so good -- he's very unpredictable. He throws stuff in counts a hitter wouldn't normally see, just to keep them off balance."
The Red Sox will counter with Jon Lester.
