Today at 1:00 p.m. the New York Jets (3-2) will look to continue their winning ways against the downtrodden Pittsburgh Steelers (0-4) coming off a bye week. The Jets shocked the football-watching world last week by taking it to the Atlanta Falcons through the air in the Georgia Dome, relenting slightly only to win in exciting, come-from-behind fashion. Rookie passer Geno Smith was efficient the whole way, winding up with three touchdown passes and zero interceptions.
"It was a tremendous game for him without question," coach Rex Ryan said of Smith, who completed a scintillating 80 percent of his pass attempts. The Jets must be wary of the winless Steelers though. They will be desperate and the Jets haven't won back-to-back games yet in 2013.
"I got a memo from the league, and they said we can win two games in a row," Ryan joked. "I think that's going to be what I talk to our team about."
A frustrated Mike Tomlin was less jovial heading into this matchup. "I like the attitude, demeanor and approach to work that the guys have taken," Tomlin said. "That's just part of the equation. Obviously, putting it together and producing victory is the most significant part of the equation."
The Steelers have benched offensive lineman Mike Adams in a shakeup that Tomlin hopes will keep Ben Roethlisberger upright. He's been sacked a league-high 15 times already, including five times against the Vikings at Wembley Stadium last Sunday. This week won't be easy, with Gang Green's defensive line anchoring the NFL's No. 1 defense.
