Tonight at 10:00 p.m., the New York Rangers (1-2-0, 2 points) will take on the Anaheim Ducks (2-1-0, 4 points) who finished last season with 66 points, third-most in the NHL, and earned a No. 2 see in the Western Conference. The Rangers, who let go of head coach John Tortorella despite a playoff berth last year, have confused new coach Alain Vigneault with their Jekyll and Hyde play. "It's tough to understand, at this point, how we can play so well (Monday) night and play this way (Tuesday)," said Vigneault. "You think you're taking a step forward after the way we played last night and obviously we didn't take a step forward with the way we played."

Vigneault was referring to the Shark attack his team endured, in which the Blueshirts let San Jose light the lamps an astonishing nine times. Four of those goals were by a 19-year-old rookie, center Thomas Hertl.

"We just have to regroup and try to improve and get better," said goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who let four of those goals get by him. "It's not going to get any easier here. We play really good teams and everybody has a lot of desperation when they come out and play, and we have to match that. I already had some time to think about what happened, and now it's time to forget about it. But you definitely have to learn from it."

They might be without star left-winger Rick Nash, who suffered a possible concussion in the loss. "It just didn't feel right," he said. "I could feel it. Any time you get a head shot you're concerned. It's not a good feeling."
