Aldon Smith Felony Gun Charges? 49ers Linebacker Facing Three Charges, Two Civil Suits [VIDEO]

Santa Clara, Ca. prosecutors have charged San Francisco 49ers All-Pro linebacker Aldon Smith with possession of assault weapons stemming from a 2012 house party where he was stabbed and two others were shot last June.

According to NBC News, Smith faces three felony charges in the case. Smith also faces a pair of pending civil suits filed by the two shooting victims. He is currently on "indefinite leave" from the team after being arrested late last month on DUI and possession of marijuana charges.

Smith's DUI arrest came about two weeks after the civil suits were filed, which names Smith as the defendant even though both victims conceded he was not the shooter in either incident. Both shootings took place in his 8,000-square-foot home in the foothills of San Jose.

Additional details of the civil suit accuse Smith of firing weapons and owning a cache of illegal firearms. The lawsuits said Smith's party was advertised on the Internet and ended with guests running from his house after a series of shots were fired.

After his DUI arrest, Smith played in the 49ers Sept. 22 game against the Indianapolis Colts, which the 49ers lost 27-7.After the game, Smith told the media: "I will do everything in my power to make sure this never happens again. I also want to let everyone know that I'm sorry."
