Tonight at 5:07 p.m. the Detroit Tigers will host the Oakland Athletics in Game 4 of the American League Divisional Series, in which the Tigers are hoping to stave off an upset in the first round of the MLB playoffs. The game can be seen on TBS or live streamed here; Tigers fans can hear the game on 97.1 The Ticket while A's fans can tune in to 95.7 The Game.
The Oakland A's rely on the home run quite a bit to score, so it was encouraging for them to belt three off of Anibal Sanchez, one of MLB's stingiest hurers in 2013 in terms of the long ball.
"We're going to strike out and we're going to hit the long ball, so once we get those going, it's going to be a good day," said outfielder Josh Reddick, one of the A's who homered yesterday. "And to do it against a guy like Sanchez, who's been great all year, it does a lot for your confidence coming into (Tuesday)."
The series got heated yesterday as well, after Victor Martinez stared down A's closer Grant Balfour, leading to a bench and bullpen clearing confrontation. Cooler heads prevailed, and the focus is likely to be on just baseball tonight.
Oakland is not riding high on their victory yesterday in Detroit, because they know the Tigers are dangerous. "We look at it as we have one to win one. If we get to five, we get to Game 5," Moss said. "This is not a team you want to give any momentum to. They're too good."
Meanwhile, Miguel Cabrera, the frontrunner for a second straight American League MVP award and second batting title exhorted his teammates. "We either score runs or we go home," Cabrera said. "This is on everybody. We all need to do better."
The Tigers send Doug Fister to the hill tonight, while the A's counter with up-and-down youngster Dan Straily.
