New York Knicks forward Metta World Peace, perhaps best known for his role in the worst brawl in NBA history, the 'Malice at the Palace,' in Detroit in which he attacked fans, is releasing a book about the whole ordeal?
According to Steve Serby of The New York Post, World Peace responded to a question about the infamous brawl by saying, "I wrote a book about it, son. I think I'm gonna wait to talk about it. But I wrote a book about that whole experience." World Peace told Serby he expects his book to come out next summer, which will mark almost 10 years since he leapt into the stands.
With less than a minute remaining in a Pacers-Pistons game on November 19th, 2004, World Peace, then known as Ron Artest, was shoved hard by Ben Wallace, earning Wallace a technical foul. World Peace bizarrely laid out on the scorer's table while awaiting the referee's decision, when a fan chucked a beer on him from the seats.
Enraged, World Peace hurtled into the stands and began slugging a man he thought responsible for the beer toss (he wasn't). Teammate Stephen Jackson joined the fracas, and some fans even took the court. One was famously jacked up by Pacers center Jermaine O'Neal.
When asked by Serby if he believes it has affected his reputation, Metta said some segment of the world still holds it against him.
"Maybe like 500,000 people still talk about it, or a million people. But the other 6.9 billion people in the world, I think they got other things to worry about, you know - from the economy, to Middle East problems, to starvation in some countries, to girl trafficking in some countries, to gang violence. There's so many other problems in the world."
Beyond the Palace brawl, Metta revealed his favorite food is beans, and that his first act as President of the United States would be to have his own sports bar. Also, he said if he could have three people at his dinner table, he'd choose Dennis Rodman, Mike Tyson, and Celine Dion.
