The Los Angeles Clippers was among the most popular teams last season for their exciting brand of basketball highlighted by amazing lob dunks orchestrated by star point guard Chris Paul to dunkers Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. But this upcoming NBA season, no less than power dunker Griffin has declared that the team will no longer be the "Lob City" as they try to find a new identity.
"Lob City doesn't exist anymore. Lob City is done," Griffin said to ESPN Los Angeles this week. "We're moving on and we're going to find our identity during training camp and that will be our new city. No more Lob City."
The Clippers hired former Boston Celtics tactician Doc Rivers in the offseason in hopes of catapulting the team to the NBA championship. Rivers led the Celtics to their last NBA title in 20008.
Led by the All-Star tandem of Paul and Griffin, the Clippers surprised the league last year with 56 wins and won the first two games of its first-round match-up with the Memphis Grizzlies. The team, however, lost four straight games to bow out of contention.
Griffin said that with Rivers in town, the Clippers will focus more on defense. He added that his game will feature a new offense, revealing his work in the off-season to improve his face-up game and have a better jump shot.
For his part, Rivers said he will make the Clippers dump their tendency to go with isolation plays and instead play in constant motion.
