Amir Khan vs. Devon Alexander Fight Cancelled? British Star Denies Report, Rumors Swirl Zab Judah Fighting Alexander At Barclays Center [VIDEO]

A report by The Daily Mail that Floyd Mayweather will be facing Amir Khan on May 3rd of 2014 has caused tremors throughout the boxing world.

The Daily Mail's report spawned other stories purporting Devon Alexander, who was slated to square off with Khan on December 7th, will now take on Zab Judah at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Boxrec.com has Judah listed as Alexander's opponent, and The Daily Mail clearly stated Khan had pulled out of the Alexander fight.

Khan's camp is vehemently disputing the article, however, and insisting Khan has not cancelled the Alexander fight. They released a statement that read:

"Team Khan would like to dispel recent reports that Amir Khan has pulled out of a potential match-up against Devon Alexander on December 7th, taking up a fight against Floyd Mayweather in May of next year instead. Contrary to this story, Amir Khan is currently in training camp in San Francisco with the aim of fighting again in December against Alexander once an agreement can be reached."

Prior to the Daily Mail article, Khan had hyped up the Alexander fight as the biggest of his career, and said it would serve as a bridge to facing Floyd. "This is a fight I have to win to take me to a superfight," said Khan. "It's my biggest opportunity."

Now that a Floyd Mayweather date appears to have been set, though, it would seem foolish for Khan to risk that bout by potentially dropping the Alexander fight.

As for Judah, he is coming off a spirited loss to Danny Garcia in which he gave Danny "Swift" fits at times, but was rocked far too often to come away with a victory. At 35 years old, another loss may spell the end of Judah's career. He is 1-2 in his last three fights, and the last significant victory he registered was a controversial split decision win over Lucas Matthysse.
