Texas A&M looks to continue its road dominance from last season when the team was 7-0 away from home during a stretch that included a win over No. 1 Alabama, after starting the season with four-straight home games while Arkansas looks to get back on the right track after a second-half collapse last week.
The Aggies dominated Arkansas last season 58-10 in their first meeting as conference rivals. Coach Kevin Sumlin knows that his team is great on the road.
"It's what we do. We don't change our routine much," Sumlin told ESPN. "Same routine we use at home we use on the road. Just like a lot of different things, you try to keep it all the same."
The Aggies are coming off of a 42-13 win over SMU last Saturday after losing 49-42 to top-ranked Alabama. Johnny Manziel totaled 346 yards and three touchdowns in just a little more than a half. So far this season, Manziel has a completion percentage of 70 in his sophomore year while going 77-for-110 for 1,228 yards with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions.
A problem for Texas A&M last week was the mounting of penalties as the team lost over 100 yards to penalties last week. The Aggies also missed three extra point attempts as well, partly due to inexperienced players.
"You can say youth, because they are young, but (they are) dumb plays," offensive lineman Cedric Ogbuehi said, according to ESPN. "We just need to get it fixed for next week. I think we came out really well and with a lot of fire. I think that the penalties were just mental mistakes."
Arkansas, meanwhile, is coming off missing a chance to go 4-0 for the first time since 2003 after blowing a 17-point third quarter lead at Rutgers last week by allowing 21 unanswered points and falling 28-24. The team will be coming into the game looking to avenge that dreadful fate.
"There was a momentum swing in the third quarter," defensive end Trey Flowers said per ESPN. "Momentum was on our side and we had every opportunity to put our foot on their throat and we didn't. ... We have to learn to fight to the end."
Arkansas had to go without quarterback Brandon Allen, who injured his shoulder while diving for a touchdown during the Razorback's 24-3 win over Southern Mississippi on Sept. 14. A.J. Derby started in his place and went 14-for-26 for 137 yards with a touchdown. Allen had been 26-for-44 for 388 yards with five touchdowns and one interception.
Allen will return this week and look to match his win total from last year in his first season under coach Bret Bielema.
