The fiancee of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been indicted on perjury charges in connection with the first-degree murder charges he faces in the killing of Odin Lloyd.
According to ESPN, Massachusetts prosecutors revealed on Friday that a grand jury indicted Shayanna Jenkins on a single count of perjury stemming from the June 17 slaying.
Lloyd, 27, was found shot to death in an industrial park not far from Hernandez's North Attleborough mansion where Jenkins also reportedly resided.
The 23-year-old Hernandez remains jailed without bail and relegated to solitary confinement at the Bristol County Jail. He has pled not guilty to the murder charge is expected to be formally tried sometime in 2014.
According to ESPN, police have speculated Hernandez killed Lloyd over concerns he might implicate him in a 2012 double-slaying in Boston that remains unsolved. A grand jury continues to investigate potential Hernandez's involvement in that drive-by shooting after a vehicle believed to be connected to the crime scene was found in the garage of a home owned by his uncle.
Prosecutors also revealed on Friday Tanya Singleton, Hernandez's cousin, has also been indicted on a new charge of conspiracy to commit accessory after the fact. She has been jailed without bond since early August after refusing to testify before a grand jury panel in connection with the Lloyd case.
