Johnny Manziel Rumors: 'Johnny Football's' Next Step Will Be Out Of NFL If He Doesn't Turn Things Around [VIDEO]

Johnny Manziel is closer than ever to being out of the NFL. For a while Johnny Football looked like he was making strides with regards to his maturity, and he was actually playing better on the field. Now, he’s been demoted to third string, and at least one former NFL executive says he would have cut him before this incident.

Manziel was able to withstand a murky story involving him, his girlfriend, police, drinking and suspected domestic violence in October. The admission that he’d had two drinks could have sunk him, seeing as how he was in rehab this offseason. This week, video surfaced of a drunk-looking Manziel partying with champagne bottles over the Browns’ bye week.

Johnny Manziel Gives A Horrific Explanation Of Video Of Him Drinking

He didn’t help himself by offering a lame explanation about the video maybe “being old,” and him having not seen it.

“Videos can be old. Videos can be all kinds of different things. So like I said, I’m not in a state to be able to speak on it because my focus has been on this today and what really matters in this game on Monday,” Manziel said in a Hail Mary defense of himself.

“I haven’t seen it, so I can’t speak on it.”

Stop Comparing Manziel To Drew Brees, Russell Wilson

It wasn’t a good look for Manziel, to whom coach Mike Pettine had just turned over the reins for the rest of the season. Pettine called the video of Manziel “disappointing,” and confirmed his unhappiness with his decision to bench him. Manziel is now behind Josh McCown and Austin Davis on the depth chart.

This benching casts his future in serious doubt. He is displaying an inability to avoid nightlife and alcohol, and he has yet to demonstrate that his ability on the field is worth the hassle. Week 10 vs. the Steelers marked the best game of Manziel’s career, in which he threw for 372 yards and a touchdown while completing 73 percent of his passes. For the season, Manziel has thrown five touchdowns and two picks, but he’s also fumbled five times.

Manziel has talent, but other players have had more and still flamed out. Manziel needs to get his life together, and possibly re-enter rehab.
