WWE News: The Reason Behind John Cena’s Time Off Revealed

The cat is finally out of the bag and as promised, WWE star John Cena has finally spoken on why he was forced to take time off, which took effect after WWE Hell in a Cell.

Cena has kept a lid on why he had to take a personal leave and many came up with wild speculations that included possibly seeing the "Cenation" leader tying the knot with girlfriend Nikki Bella. Cena mentioned at that time that he would reveal the real reason behind it and apparently that time has now come.

It turns out the Cena will be appearing in a high-profile reality TV series called "American Grit," which will be shown on Fox.

This will be a 10-episode reality competition featuring 16 civilian contestants divided into four teams that will go through a maze of challenges composed of military-based drills.

Cena has recruited an elite group of mentors to help out, each with the task of pushing the contestants to the limit as they face different military-grade and survival-themed challenges.

Strength, stamina and teamwork will be put to the ultimate test, but the winner will ultimately be rewarded with a $1 million prize after making it through the tough obstacles.

“The U.S Military is the epitome of resolve and dedication, which is why I am so excited to be a part of 'American Grit',” said Cena via WWE.com. “This show will not only be a challenging and fierce competition, but it will give viewers a glimpse into the perseverance and training of the men and women of the Armed Forces.”

Filming is expected to go as far as January which could hint that the "Cenation" leader may be back in time for the Royal Rumble.

Hence, this mean that while earlier rumors suggested a possible Cena return this December, it could end up being a special appearance and not an official return to active duty.
