Nate Burleson Car Accident: Broken Arm Sidelines Lions WR, Ryan Broyles Next In Line? [VIDEO]

The Detroit Lions are 2-1 and the offense was clicking last week in a win over the Washington Redskins last week. Stafford lost a weapon following the victory, though; late Monday night wide receiver Nate Burleson broke his arm in two places in a single-car accident according to reports.

ESPN says alcohol was not involved in the 2:25 a.m. crash Tuesday morning. Rather, the culprit was pizza. Burleson allegedly crashed his Yukon truck because he had two pizza pies that were falling off the seat. He went to adjust them, losing control of the car in the process.

Michigan State Police lieutenant Michael Shaw described what happened to reporters. "It was actually a whole pizza," Shaw said. "He had purchased two whole pizzas, and one was sitting on top of the other one and I guess when he was driving, one of them was slipping off and he was reaching over to push it back onto the seat and overcorrected and hit the median wall."

Lions running back Reggie Bush, who is nursing an injury himself, tweeted support for Burleson. "Wow thoughts and prayers with my fallen teammate Nate Burleson wishing him a speedy recovery! Hate having to learn about this on ESPN," Bush wrote.

Against the Redskins Burleson broke out, reeling in six passes for 116 yards and getting targeted nine times by Matthew Stafford. He will likely be replaced by second-year wideout Ryan Broyles out of Oklahoma.

Last year Burleson suffered a broken leg on Monday Night Football against the Chicago Bears, and was awarded the Lions' Ed Block Courage Award for fighting his way back into the starting lineup.

In 10 games last season Broyles caught 22 passes for 310 yards and two scores. On Sunday Broyles was active for the first time in 2013.
