Royals fans delirious over Kansas City’s first pro sports championship since 1985 got a little too excited Sunday night. Fans, who apparently are terrible at geography, in Lawrence, Kansas stormed the Jayhawks’ football field and tore down the goal posts before chucking them into a lake.

That’s…just not bright. For starters, the Royals play in Kansas City, Missouri. The Jayhawks actually play in Kansas. Big difference, even though the name is the same. Additionally, the vandals broke a fence as well as the goal posts, causing upward of $10,000 in damages.

“We just wish that these individuals had chosen a different way to celebrate,” Kansas Associate Athletics Directory Jim Marchiony told Kansan.com. “There’s also the matter of personal safety that is a real concern.”

Marchiony was able to keep his sense of humor about celebrations in more than one place that got pretty rowdy.

“Everybody is thrilled about the Royals championship. We’ve all enjoyed watching them all year long, Marchiony said. “But we thought the slogan was take the crown, not take the goalpost.”
