Floyd Mayweather Vs. Amir Khan 'Real Possibility': Stephen Espinoza Intrigued By Style, Hand Speed Of 'King' Khan [VIDEO]

Floyd Mayweather Jr. put forth perhaps the best performance of his career against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on September 14th, but in the process may have sent a message that he is simply too good to be challenged by any fighter remotely near his weight.

The question now for Mayweather and Showtime sports is where Mayweather goes from this point, having decimated the top challenger available to him. Showtime Sports' top executive Stephen Espinoza thinks it is time to change the type of opponent being placed in front of "Money" Mayweather.

"What we saw against Saul Alvarez is that strength alone is not going to do it against Floyd Mayweather, so when you talk about handspeed and foot speed, then you start talking about two guys - Amir Khan and Adrien Broner," Espinoza said. "And whether or not Amir Khan lost to Danny Garcia or not, Amir Khan is one of the fastest fighters out there in the world."

He then said, "It's a real possibility and as a match-up, I like it a lot."

Khan will need to defeat Devon Alexander in December to even have a chance at a superfight with Mayweather. Khan has suffered unexpected defeats in the past, one of which came against Danny Garcia. Garcia topped the favored Lucas Matthysse on the Mayweather-Alvarez undercard, and also figures to be in line for a Mayweather payday.

Judging from Espinoza's comments, however, that doesn't seem to be juicy enough for Showtime's liking. IT could be tough sledding finding proper opponents for Floyd to go up against, but Espinoza believes he will continue to draw even if he will be the heavy favorite every time he steps in the ring. "The way I look at it, Alabama football has been pretty dominant the last three or four years," he said. "They've had some close games, they've had some blowouts, but no one stops watching them because they've been so dominant.

Khan also said that he is taking Alexander very seriously. "This is a fight I have to win to take me to a superfight," said Khan. "It's my biggest opportunity."
